Following the discovery of a case of arbovirosis in Colomiers (Haute-Garonne), near Toulouse, a mosquito control operation was carried out during the night of Thursday August 24 to Friday August 25, 2023 to prevent the spread of tropical diseases transmitted by tiger mosquitoes.
The number of cases of arbovirosis (dengue, chikungunya or Zika) in the urban area of Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) and with them mosquito control operations. The City of Colomiers is the last municipality concerned. The municipality of western Toulouse was alerted by the Occitanie Regional Health Agency (ARS) concerning the existence of a case of arbovirosis on its territory.
The affected individual, although not a resident of Colomiers, was bitten by mosquitoes during an activity at the Capitany sports complex.
A mosquito control operation therefore took place on the night of Thursday August 24 to Friday August 25, 2023, without any real public communication, between 11 p.m. and midnight in the sector of the Capitany sports complex as well as a portion of avenue Yves-Brunaud neighbor.

In a report made public at the start of 2023, the Health Risk Monitoring and Anticipation Committee (Covars) found that despite the growing risk of catching an arbovirus in France, a majority of the population in the south of France did not protect themselves once morest mosquito bites.
The Covars also warned regarding the reactions of the population to possible epidemics of dengue, zika or chik: “In mainland France, the appearance of new diseases such as dengue fever or chikungunya, limited until now to tropical regions, is likely to trigger reactions that should be anticipated from a crisis management perspective. Research in risk psychology since the 1970s shows that individuals are much more sensitive to information regarding unfamiliar risks over which they cannot exercise only limited control, which is the case for many emerging infectious diseases.”
In Haute-Garonne, 13 cases of these cases of arbovirosis were identified between May and August 18, 2023.
