Today, nothing has changed. This 68-year-old woman has still not been compensated, according to our colleagues from Sudinfo.
“I have nightmares regarding it. Almost every night”, says Eveline today, still overwhelmed by anguish. We had met her four months ago at her home in Quaregnon, in Hainaut.
His kitchen floor had risen two feet. A huge pour of concrete had sprung from the ground and covered the ground floor, due to a construction site on the public highway. “There was 15 centimeters of mud moving at full speed towards the first room, the only room where I was able to find refuge”she explains.
There is moral damage too, but that he does not take into account
Eveline had had to leave the house she was renting. Today, nothing is progressing. The sexagenarian is still staying with her son. She has not yet been compensated by insurance while her furniture and appliances have been damaged. “They replied that they estimate at 7,000 euros. And once more, they told me that it is to be discussed with the other insurance companies. It is therefore not certain that I will have 7,000 euros. Which is nothing when you have to completely refurnish. And there is moral damage too. But he ignores it. It doesn’t count”laments Eveline.
Another hard blow: the death of her husband
In addition, she was confronted with another hard blow: the loss of her husband at the end of June. He was the one who had signed the lease for the house before their marriage. The owner therefore decided to break the contract to sell the house. “He is the only one committed to this lease and she sent me a letter saying that she was breaking the lease with my husband”she says.
Today, she can only rely on her pension and hope to be compensated quickly to find housing and a balanced life.
