Far from having been “snuggled” by the surprise elimination he suffered in the last season in which, following having obtained the 1 of the regular phase, the eighth Libertad left him empty-handed, Barrio Parque quickly “licked” his wounds and became in the first team to start working with its sights set on the 2023/2024 season of the Argentine League.

With some new faces in their formation compared to the previous season, such as the returnees Valentín Bauducco (guard) and Joaquín Lallana (pivot), along with the additions of guard Benjamín Herrera and youth point guard Benjamín Giorgietti, the “ Verdes del Sur” began to shape the new profile that they will try to capture in the season that will have Esteban Pierdominicci as technical driver.

While the squad is getting physically ready under the orders of Mauricio Moyano, alternating with movements with the ball in the Carlos Cerutti sports center, Tomás Ligorria, one of the leaders of the squad together with the “stainless” captain Lautaro Rivata, tells MundoD how they have faced in a new process, the new additions, the challenges and the bitter taste that remained following the premature elimination last season.

“It was very hard, an unexpected blow, because we were all convinced that we were going for everything. But you also learn from those defeats. It is a learning that you incorporate when this type of thing happens to you. Although it is true that Libertad beat us well, and already with Monday’s newspaper, I think that it did not help us in the month-long hiatus that we had and where they arrived well oiled. But hey, I think it helped us for the future, so as not to speak so much ahead of time or too much, as perhaps we did, “acknowledges the son of the historic “el Lomo” Ligorria.

For “Tomi” it will be his fifth season in Barrio Parque and the second in a row. Previously, the 1.95-meter, 106-kilogram power forward had participated in the 2013/2014 season, coming from Athens; later he returned in the 2015/2016 League, where he was one of the protagonists of the final for promotion once morest Hispano Americano from Río Gallegos; he then was part of the 2017/2018 season and is currently part of the team since the 2022/2023 season.

In addition, Ligorria wore the shirts of AD 9 de Julio de Morteros, Instituto, Unión de Santa Fe, Del Progreso de Río Negro, Estudiantes de Olavarría, San Isidro de San Francisco and Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata.

-What impression does the new team leave you?

-I think that although several players left us (Tomás Ludueña, Ramiro Ledesma, Juan Cruz Tulián and Pablo Moya) the boys who came in as their replacements have not been out of place at all. What’s more, I think we have taken a small leap in terms of making the squad. In addition, the conformation of the group, which is one of the characteristics that Barrio Parque always takes care of to be the best, is forming and consolidating despite the short time that we have been together. In addition, they are seen with commitment and dedication. And that will be good to face the season with more strength.

-How do you live the participation of Athens in the Argentine League?

-First of all I am very hurt by what happened to Athens, because I did all my inferiors there and it is the club that gave me the chances to grow. One never imagined that it would reach this stage, but like any big club, it has the possibility of getting up once more. It has already happened to other clubs and now it should not be the exception with Athens. They have also put together a very good squad, with a great coach, but hey they will have to prove it. The Argentine league is very tough, for everyone it will be an incentive to face them and of course for everyone, including me, it will be a great challenge to face them.

-How is the work of the new DT going so far?

-I am and we are very satisfied with what has been done so far. Esteban is a young coach, who proposes an agile and committed task. We are working very well. We are one of the first to start with the pre-season. That’s why I hope it gives us a plus when it comes to rolling out the team. Although there is still a lack of competition, in the games we play between us we notice that a chemistry is being formed that can favor us. We’ll see how it goes.

-Which team will be seen?

-I think that this season, in general, we will see a faster team. The idea is that we are a very rigorous team in the defensive aspect, which is where Esteban asks us for a lot of sacrifice. And in offense we will try to be fast, with dynamic attacks, as long as we can defend accordingly.

-It is premature, but what will be the objective?

-We always think of reaching the top. Barrio Parque is a club that got used to fighting up front and this year will be no exception. As Esteban says, ‘let’s work with the idea of being the last to leave and the last to turn off the light’. That is, to be the last team to stand and leave the field. But besides that, it is a great motivation to know that we are a leading club, that they respect us on all pitches and that allows you to have to toughen up and plug in for each commitment that touches you. We will follow that line.

-Do you feel like one of the leaders of the team?

-And if. It might be said that with my 29 years I am already a kind of veteran of the team (laughs). But I like being one of the leading players, the ones who talks the most and advises the squad. I have been playing for many years, in different teams and places, and throughout my career I have heard and seen many things. That is why now I consider that I have some experience to pass on to the newer ones and that comforts me.
