Firefighters from the province’s rescue zone were on the go this Thursday from noon until late followingnoon.
It all started with a dozen interventions for fallen trees on the roads in Libramont, Neufchâteau, Arlon, Marche and Florenville, between 12 and 2 p.m.
And then, the storm redoubled in intensity in the followingnoon. Lightning struck three houses: in Tohogne, Bure and Messancy.
Tarpaulin roof
In Tohogne (Durbuy), the call was launched around 3:20 p.m., for a roof fire on a house on Chemin de l’Aisance.
When the firefighters from Érezée arrived, the disaster had been brought under control by their colleagues from Hamoir, around the chimney.
The building was smoked mainly at the level of the garage.
The electric meter and the inverters melted following the lightning. All of this was extinguished and Orès descended on the scene while the Erezée firefighters covered the roof.
The municipal administration of Durbuy was notified, but no one had to be rehoused by the Municipality, the owners were in fact able to be accommodated with their families.
Lightning strikes a house in Bure
Almost at the same time, a violent storm hit the village of Bure (Tellin) and around 3:35 p.m., a huge explosion rang out in the village, depriving part of the population, including the college of Alzon, of all Internet connection. The house that received the lightning is located at rue de Grupont.
The firefighters of Rochefort and Saint-Hubert intervened. The electrical damage is very significant.
Messancy: a house affected
Lightning did not spare the south of the province. It was in Messancy, on the Chemin des Mines, that it fell on a house where the damage was electrical.
Arlon firefighters were dispatched to the scene around 4:15 p.m.
More trees
The firefighters once more intervened to clear roads congested by trees or large branches.
This was the case at 3:50 p.m. on Route de la Platinerie, in Bouillon (local firefighters intervened) and on the N89 near Saint-Hubert around 4:30 p.m. (Libramont firefighters).
