• A modern, electric version of the Chevrolet Blazer K5? Who would say no?
When Chevrolet brought the Blazer name back to the catalog a few years ago, many were offended to realize that the new model was not an inspired version of the Blazer of the time, launched in 1969.
It’s more of a modern SUV, with a design inspired by the Camaro, which we were entitled to. An excellent vehicle, that said, but with no connection to the past. At Ford, we did the opposite with the modern version of the Bronco, directly linked to the original model that was introduced for the year 1966.
You understand that it got people talking… and it still makes people talk, especially since next year, the Blazer name will also serve as an all-electric model.
Could GM bring back a past-inspired Blazer version once the electric transition is complete? Nothing indicates it for the moment, but it is interesting to note that the design department of General Motors had fun creating a sketch which gives an idea of what such a model might look like.
The work is that of Darby Jean Barber who is a designer at General Motors. What strikes with the model is the very high ground clearance, the two-door configuration, as in the original, as well as the massive wheels which might practically allow the vehicle to circulate on the Moon.

The huge black protective plate that can be seen at the front leaves no doubt regarding the vocation of such a model. As for the electrical configuration, it is the simple deduction of the fact that there is no traditional grille at the front.
Another fun stylistic element; the wheel arches are different between the front and the rear. As for the lights, their design gives us the impression that the vehicle is going at full speed.
Obviously, there is no talk of a production version for this model, but it is always interesting to watch the evolution of the lines within the product range; the inspiration often comes from these sketches that we can see appear.
