Johannesburg – Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a brief meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. The meeting between Modi and Xi lasted only a few seconds amid ongoing border tensions.

The two leaders greeted each other by shaking hands and discussed the issue. The video was released by news agency ANI. The two people did not pose near the photo which was part of the plenary session of the summit yesterday.

Modi and Xi shook hands during the G20 leaders’ dinner last November in Bali, Indonesia. After the Ladakh conflict in 2020, the two leaders met face to face for the first time. Meanwhile, India and China held military-level talks 19 times to ease the tension.

China’s attempt to include Pakistan in BRICS did not materialize due to India’s strong opposition. Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa joined the BRICS group of six new members. The new member countries are Argentina, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and Egypt.
