At the heart of the Fête de l’Humanité, Espace Jack-Ralite sits enthroned. To name the marquee of the Living Arts, it was necessary at the very least to remember this remarkable personality, a former minister who died in 2017, who carried a demanding conception of culture and tirelessly led the fight for freedom of creation. The Space will host, in addition to many film screenings and many debates on cultural issues, three shows that each telescope the social, cultural and political news of our country.
The actor and director Bryan Polach, a graduate of the National Conservatory of Paris, will show his play 78-2 there. This figure is that of the article of the Penal Code defining the conditions for identity checks. The play, which begins with friendly friction, ends up starkly questioning the incendiary relationship between the youth of working-class neighborhoods and the police. “Identity checks as a mirror of French societal fractures”, indicates the director. Such is the plot of this hard-hitting piece with a topic that might not be more current.
Celebrating humor
Espace Jack-Ralite will also welcome comedian Audrey Vernon, who wrote a column in the pages of Humanity magazine. Present on all fronts of social and ecological struggles, the actress had run her previous show, How to marry a billionaire?, even in factories and ZADs.
She will present at this Fête de l’Humanité her new one woman show, Billion Dollar Baby, a twisting and alarming dialogue with her unborn child on the possibilities and impasses of the world to come.
Lastly, Aymeric Lompret, comedian well-known to France Inter listeners and associated with Charline Vanhoenacker’s merry band, will give us the first taste of a new show that we doubtless imagine as funny as it is corrosive.
