As a reminder, Yves Chevalier and his little brother, Steve, would have participated in the murder of Dominique Meyer, a 48-year-old Virtonnais, killed with several stab wounds. His body had been found following the fire in his house, located at number 8 of the Petite rue basse in Virton, on December 11, 2022. Yves Chevalier had been placed in detention under the modality of electronic surveillance, on December 27, 2022, before being released on conditions a few weeks later.
“An act foreign to the file”
The suspect’s lawyer, Maître Anne-Catherine Mignon, tells us that she is in shock. “I learned on Tuesday evening that Monsieur Chevalier had committed suicide. It is extremely unfortunate, because this gentleman had 4 children… I can only deplore the unhappy life he had. that his act has nothing to do with the current case and I do not want it to be related to an admission of guilt”, assures the lawyer who did not wish to comment further on the facts.
Before the Meyer affair, Yves Chevalier had never hit the headlines, except for a few minor thefts in the past. The death of Yves Chevalier leads, de facto, to the termination of the legal action once morest him. Recall that his brother, Steve Chevalier, is still under the links of an arrest warrant since December 14, 2022 for assassination (murder with premeditation), arson of a building occupied at night and theft of money as well as personal effects of the victim, namely Dominique Meyer. He still benefits, at this stage, from the presumption of innocence.
