Invima Health Alert: Unauthorized Commercialization of Metamucil Product

The National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (Invima) issued a health alert on August 23, 2023 once morest the Metamucil product. Although several of its presentations are allowed in the country, the 754-gram bottle does not have the necessary registrations to be commercialized.

Invima clarified that the only presentations that are covered by a sanitary registry are the following:

-HDPE bottle with PP lid for 174 grams of powder to be reconstituted as an oral suspension.

-HDPE bottle with PP lid for 425 grams of powder to reconstitute an oral suspension.

-Box of 10 aluminum/HDPE sachets for 5.8 grams of powder to reconstitute an oral suspension per sachet.

According to the alert issued by the entity, this product would be classified as deceptive and “does not ensure standards of excellence, safety and performance, thus creating a threat to the well-being of buyers.” In addition, there are uncertainties regarding its authentic content, its tracking history, and the circumstances under which it is stored and transported.

On different occasions, the Institute has highlighted the dangers that this type of article entails for the health of users, and also highlights the non-sanctioned characteristics that create erroneous illusions regarding the true nature, origin, composition or excellence of the products.

Invima recommends refraining from purchasing the food listed in this alert. If you have already purchased the product, you will have to stop using it.
