Philadelphia: The puma cubs found isolated in Kalama, Washington were taken to the Philadelphia Zoo. A male puma and a female puma were rescued by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. Puma cubs are 19-20 weeks old. It is believed that their mother was shot dead by the farmer.
The male puma is named Elbroch and the female Olympia. The public will not be allowed to see the puma cubs until the quarantine period is over. Currently, a team of veterinary doctors is checking the health status. The Philadelphia Zoo has always been at the forefront of pumas conservation.
Puma cubs will grow up under the mother’s care. Pumas are present in areas from Alaska to Chile. Pumas also have names like cougar and mountain lion. Pumas are listed as ‘Least Concern’ by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The Philadelphia Zoo has taken care of parentless pumas before. In 2005, the zoo also sheltered pumas like Dakota, Sage and Cinnabar from South Dakota.
