Saudi Arabia doubles compensation for passengers in case of flight delays or cancellations. Passengers whose flights are delayed for more than six hours must be paid a compensation of 750 Riyals. If the luggage is lost or damaged, the compensation will be more than one lakh rupees. The revised law will come into effect on November 20 this year, the Civil Aviation Authority said.

The Act has been revised by increasing compensation and benefits for various issues faced by passengers from airlines. Passengers are entitled to compensation in case of travel delay, early service, cancellation, denial of seat due to overbooking, downgrading of seat, later inclusion of stopover which was not present at the time of booking.

Apart from paying a financial compensation of 750 Riyals to passengers whose flight is delayed for more than six hours, the airline company must also provide services such as food, hotel accommodation and transportation. If the trip is cancelled, the airline will be liable to pay compensation up to 150 percent of the ticket price. Under certain circumstances, passengers are entitled to financial compensation of up to 200 percent of the ticket price.

Passengers who lose their baggage will get compensation equal to 6,568 riyals. In case of baggage damage or delay in delivery, compensation not exceeding 6,568 riyals will be provided. The revised code will ensure the rights of disabled passengers and passengers on charter flights such as Hajj and Umrah services.
