Controversial Incident at Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne’s Birthday Celebration

2023-08-23 16:05:00

Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne was celebrating his fiftieth birthday and had invited, in addition to his friends and personalities from the region, a certain number of members of his political party, the Open VLD. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo was also present.

The evening seemed to have been well watered. Indeed, early in the morning, following the prime minister left, three visibly inebriated guests staggered out of the house and urinated on a police van parked a few yards away. Other diners, hilarious, attended the scene, including the minister himself, according to what Het Nieuwsblad reported.

This police van is regularly parked on the street of the Minister of Justice, who has had police protection since a foiled kidnapping attempt in September 2022. In addition to the van, the police installed a surveillance camera which recorded the whole incident. The chief of police was reportedly informed of the situation that same morning and was particularly upset upon learning of the facts.

“Revolted”

We’ve worked hard to protect this man and his family, and now his guests are pulling such a prank on us right in front of his eyes. This kind of drunken behavior is not fun at all“, a policeman from the area told the Nieuwsblad. Another policeman, interviewed by Het Laatste Nieuws, added: “We are revolted“.

A report has been drawn up and an investigation for contempt of an agent has been opened, as confirmed by the spokesperson for the prosecution, Tom Janssens, to the Flemish daily. Still according to our colleagues, the prosecution will question the minister and his wife regarding this incident in order to identify the people involved.
