Problem of harassment, racism, unfair dismissals… Anger is brewing at Brussels Airlines, according to the workers who alert us to these problems internally. This Wednesday, one of them tells us that a request for conciliation has been made for the problems of harassment and racism, as well as for the problems of planning, rest and leave.
Since the takeover by Lufthansa, the unions fear that Brussels Airlines will become more and more a “low cost” style company, in particular to compete with companies like Ryanair.

“Since this company is 100% German, it has become complicated.”
Towards a strike in September?
”A colleague was fired for an alleged theft of muffins on board, without proof. He claims his innocence. But the management fired him”, slips a worker, for whom this seems to be the final straw. “Another, of Moroccan origin, was a victim of racism, she is told to act like a real Belgian… But she is Belgian! We are overwhelmed, many delegates and colleagues want to go on strike. We have been denouncing problems of harassment for months, without success”, he adds.
For the latter case, a complaint was lodged with Unia, the former Center for Equal Opportunities and the Fight once morest Racism. “Certain problems might easily be solved internally, as was done with Belgian bosses like Bernard Gustin, for example, but the problem is that we never see the German leaders of Brussels Airlines, protests Didier Lebbe, permanent at the CNE. The new CEO is not often in Brussels and seems more concerned with her position in public relations for the Lufthansa group with the European Commission than her position as head of the Belgian company. Since this company is 100% German, it has become complicated”.
A request for emergency conciliation was filed Tuesday with the Minister of Labor. If no change is observed, the staff should go on strike, a priori around mid-September, we are assured.
