Since the mutiny, which ended with negotiations and an agreement, Russian and foreign media outlets have claimed that Surovikin was under investigation for possible complicity with Wagner and that he was under house arrest.

“The former head of the Russian air and space forces, Sergei Surovikin, has been relieved of his duties, while Colonel-General Viktor Afzalov, chief of the Main Staff of the Air Force, assures provisionally the functions of commander-in-chief of the air force,” an anonymous source told RIA.
