Mortal Kombat from Neitherworld Studios has become one of the most popular fighting game series in the world over the years. Although this series has had its ups and downs, whenever a new Mortal Kombat game comes out, there is a lot of buzz in the gaming community. So much so that references to the term “fatality” from the game have gone mainstream. Naturally, then, when the Mortal Kombat 1 teaser was released earlier this year, there was a lot of excitement among fans. Since it was a cinematic teaser, I was still hesitant to buy the hype, but following playing the beta version of the game this past weekend, I can confidently say that this might be the best fighting game to come out this year. It’s a bold claim since this is the year Street Fighter 6 was actually released to critical acclaim (Tekken 8 is confirmed to release on January 26th next year, so it doesn’t qualify). Mortal Kombat 1 Beta Details Available Characters Liu Kang Sub-Zero Kenshi Kitana Johnny Cage Li Mi Cameo Characters Available Stages Cafe Johnny Cage’s Mansion First Impressions Downloading Mortal Kombat 1 for the first time is an experience in itself. The unique presentation style is very smooth and dynamic in nature. The transitions are very smooth from one screen to the next, and when you choose your character and Kameo (to help you battle with certain moves), you’ll be excited to start the match. Fortunately, in this beta, NetherRealm Studios made some popular characters available, including Sub-Zero and Johnny Cage. For me personally, Sub-Zero was always the automatic first choice, and as soon as I got into my first match I made it I knew I was in for a treat. The fast pace of the game, great graphics, and smooth animations combine to provide you with a unique experience that is unmatched by any other fighting game on the market right now. The characters have personality and their movements reflect their personality well. While playing online matches, I did not face any connection issues and there was no issue with the response time either. Whether it was the stage design, the fatalities (horrible ways to eliminate an opponent), or the combos, the game made me so addicted that I didn’t want to put the console aside for hours. And considering that the beta didn’t even include highly anticipated characters like Homelander, Peacemaker, and Omni-Man, one can only imagine how great the final product will be. Full Release Details Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on September 19th worldwide and will be available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, Series S and Microsoft Windows. The game can be pre-ordered from Steam now for INR 4499 (Standard Edition) and INR 6099 (Premium Edition). On PlayStation 5, these pre-orders will cost you Rs 4,799 and Rs 6,399 respectively.
