The CPAS of Charleroi indicated, Tuesday followingnoon, that the computer attack which it suffered the day before was indeed followed by a demand for ransom. Since then, the institution has filed a complaint with the federal police, confirmed at the same time the spokesperson for the public center for social action.

More than 24 hours following the attack, the CPAS of Charleroi remained seriously disturbed. As of Monday, he had cut his servers to be able to cope with it. And these might not yet be relaunched on Tuesday. This prevented the normal functioning of several services, including the social antennas usually open on Tuesdays but closed in the circumstances.

“We are working to put in place alternative solutions,” said the CPAS spokesperson. According to the latter, these should make it possible to reopen the social antennas as of Thursday.

The restoration of the computer system is not yet scheduled. “For this, we must first know when the attack took place precisely so that we can apply the right back-up,” explained the spokesperson.
