Residents of Shipshaw had quite a surprise when they received their bid from their snowplow.
Some will have to pay double last year to get the same service.
Residents of Shipshaw will have to do without the services of their snowplow next winter. Their submission is far from comparable to last year. The prices were raised. One client’s bill went from $600 to $920 and on another proposal, the amount is over $1200.
“The price doubled and on top of that I had time to scratch myself before they came. Last year it was already expensive for what I had to scrape,” said a lady who decided to get a snowblower this year.
The owner of the Déneigement Shipshaw company admits that for the snow removal of large yards, the prices have doubled. For the smaller ones, the prices will be increased by 200 to 300 dollars.
“It may seem big because the increase is still good, but in future years, we will follow normal inflation, 2 to 3% per year,” said Emmanuel Samson.
The latter began offering snow removal services last year. By the end of the season, he was down $30,000. This is one of the reasons for its upward readjustment.
“I paid to go snow clearing at the world, he said. It was the first year, it was a break-in year, but you can’t do that year following year.
“Last year I increased a few admissions […] So, I adjusted a few entries, but this year, everyone is going through it. I had no choice. Prices had to be adjusted in relation to diesel, in relation to tractor rentals and repairs,” he added.
The cost of renting and maintaining machinery has also doubled.
“A tractor rental is 50% more. The diesel, a few years ago it was at 1.10 and now it is down to 2.40”, mentioned Mr. Samson.
Although there are two other snow removal companies in Shipshaw. Déneigement Shipshaw is the only company to offer the service in certain areas of the municipality.
However, it is far from being the only company to follow suit. Others have also chosen to raise their prices this year.
“Everyone is in the same boat with the costs,” said Mr. Samson. Of course, not everyone will follow. Yes, we think we will lose a good percentage, but we are ready to do that, because if we don’t, we will stop clearing snow. We cannot go into debt year following year.
