CHN Energy’s wind power project in South Africa draws attention at BRICS Media Forum

The sixth BRICS Media Forum opened on August 19 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Wang Min, director of CHN Energy Investment Group, reported on China-Africa cooperation in the energy sector in his keynote speech. The De Aar Wind Power Project is making an effective contribution to addressing South Africa’s electricity shortages, promoting local economic development and playing an important role in protecting the local environment.

Around 200 representatives from around 100 media, think tanks and international organizations from 30 countries discussed under the motto “BRICS and Africa: Strengthening Media Dialogue for a Shared and Unbiased Future”. to build a high-quality BRICS friendship and promote the BRICS mechanism.

CHN Energy, one of the world’s largest electric utilities, built and operates South Africa’s largest wind power project, the De Aar Wind Power Project. The project provides clean wind power to 300,000 homes per year and creatively builds an inclusive eco-growth model linking the project, businesses, society and the environment, and is being hailed as a model for BRICS countries to work together in the energy sector.

Siyabonga Cyprian Cwele, South African Ambassador to China, explained that the BRICS countries are actively looking for ways to shift from traditional production methods to high-tech production and digitalization. Chinese companies played an important role in this.

Rwanda, stressed that Africa urgently needs this kind of cooperation now, while commenting on CHN Energy’s joint wind power project with South Africa. “The China-Africa energy cooperation not only fills the local energy gap, but also leads to technology transfer and helps host countries train skilled workers. I hope there will be similar energy cooperation in more African countries,” he said.

Christopher Mutsvangwa, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) party, ZANU-PF Information and Public Affairs Secretary and former Ambassador to China, said Zimbabwe expects CHN Energy to go to Zimbabwe would come to carry out clean energy projects and expand cooperation in the energy sector, including assisting in the development of clean energy, to achieve mutual benefits and win-win results, and common development for all.
