WKÖ-Head: Nursing apprenticeship is an important step in securing nursing care

Austria’s economy welcomes the new apprenticeships “nursing assistant” and “nursing assistant” – additional practical training track in Austria from autumn

Vienna (OTS) On Tuesday, the training ordinances for the two new apprenticeships “nursing assistant” and “nursing assistant” were issued, which will come into force on September 1st. The first training companies can therefore probably start this year – following the necessary assessment notice has been issued.

“This has fulfilled the wish of many companies, but also of those interested in the profession. We are pleased that this long-standing demand from business has now been followed by deeds,” says Karlheinz Kopf, Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ). “With the two new nursing apprenticeships, young people who are striving for a secure professional future and people who want to reorient themselves now have an additional attractive training track. A nursing apprenticeship is ideal for anyone who enjoys working with people and would like to acquire the necessary practical knowledge.”

The nursing apprenticeship has all the advantages of dual training in Austria – such as your own apprentice income right from the start, practice-oriented training directly in the companies, as well as the up-to-date imparting of specialist knowledge that is really needed. High quality standards and the necessary life experience are ensured – a minimum age of 17 years is observed for work on patients.

In Switzerland, where the prerequisites were created almost twenty years ago, the model works very well: the nursing apprenticeships are regularly among the most popular federal apprenticeships.

“The example of Switzerland makes us very confident that the nursing apprenticeship will also enjoy a high level of acceptance here. This is a very important step towards securing care provision in Austria,” concluded Kopf. (PWK265/HSP)
