More details in iOS 17 codes hint at the arrival of the Action button

Much has been said regarding adding a action button to the “iPhones 15 Pro”. Now, the rumor regarding the arrival of such a button, which (supposedly) will replace the traditional key to activate / deactivate silent mode and allow the user to perform various actions, was once once more corroborated by codes found in the new beta version of iOS 17.

According to 9to5Mac, beta 7 of the upcoming version of the operating system for iPhones adds new haptic feedback patterns to the devices’ silent mode. The function, it is worth noting, would be the action performed by the new button by default, and might be replaced by others by users in Settings.

Currently, iOS only releases a quick vibration when the iPhone goes into silent mode, but iOS 17 codes indicate that there will be a response when the mode is turned off. The new haptic pattern will take slightly longer than the current one — presumably to make it easier for users to understand how to use the new button.

As the simple action of moving the key to activate or deactivate the silent mode already indicates that the action was performed, until today there was no need for feedback when the mode is deactivated. The same would not happen with a capacitive button — as rumors indicate that it will be the case —, which would need to provide feedback in both situations.

Another problem that we still don’t know how it will be solved concerns the lack of the visual indicator provided by the position of the key, which indicates whether or not the iPhone is in silent mode. One option, as the site suggested, would be to add an icon to the menu bar, but to get feedback on the currently active mode, the user would at least need to turn on the device’s screen.

In July, it is worth remembering, codes for the fourth beta of iOS 17 provided even more details regarding the supposed future button. Everything indicates that it will be possible, through it, to perform actions such as activating the camera, the flashlight or even some custom shortcut — which would open up a sea of possibilities for the future component.

Problem solved

Still talking regarding the haptic feedback in activating the silent mode of iPhones, as noted by MacRumorsthe new beta of iOS 17 fixed a bug that simply disappeared with the vibration — a problem that appeared in beta 6.
