[Yahoo News Report]12 Hong Kong residents were suspected of absconding to Taiwan in August 2020, and were intercepted and detained by the Guangdong Coast Guard on the way. Among them, Deng Diran was sentenced to 3 years in prison in the Mainland for the crime of “organizing others to sneak across the border”. Today (22nd) is the day when Deng Chiran was released from prison following serving his sentence. He left Guangdong Conghua Prison in the morning and was transferred to Hong Kong. He arrived at Tianshuiwei Police Station at regarding 11:30. A large number of media were waiting outside the police station. A black seven-passenger car was seen driving into the police station. The media failed to capture the scene of the suspect getting out of the car.

According to the police, a 34-year-old male suspect who was sent back by the mainland law enforcement agency was received at the Shenzhen Bay Port today. He is suspected of being related to a “conspiracy to arson” case that occurred in Wan Chai District on September 30, 2019. Following a police investigation, the man was charged with one count of conspiracy to arson with intent and an alternate charge of possession with intent to destroy or damage property.

The police continued that the man was arrested by Mainland law enforcement agencies in Mainland waters on suspicion of sneaking out of Hong Kong in August 2020. He then missed the arraignment at the District Court on September 8, 2020 and was wanted by the court by issuing an arrest warrant. After the mainland law enforcement agencies completed relevant judicial procedures, the man was handed over to the Hong Kong police. The case is now being followed up by the Commercial Crime Bureau and the National Security Department. The police will arrange for the man to appear in the District Court tomorrow.

According to the website of the judiciary, Deng Chiran will be arraigned in the District Court tomorrow (23rd) with the nature of “arrest and arrest in accordance with the order”.
