It seems that deep in the woods, on the edge of the railway tracks, a stone’s throw from the Lesse, there is a strange tower. It is called “royal”. Wanted by Leopold II. A step forward before reaching a sumptuous castle. But the castle has disappeared. The tower, no. So we decided to check. And that alone earned us the chance to put on the explorer’s costume for the space of a morning. There is a path – the aptly named “queen’s path” – which leads there if you follow the railway line. But we had opted for the most direct route. Maybe not the fastest or the easiest. For this, we had to cross a golf course (the Royal Golf Club of the Château d’Ardenne), the signs warning us that we had to be careful of flying balls. Then sink into a wood. Before falling on private property. To circumvent it, it was necessary to take a descent in the woods. Obviously, we weren’t the first. The royal splendor had left here and there stone steps making it possible not to go straight ahead.
