Essent lowers the rate for electricity by regarding half a cent to 39.042 cents per kilowatt hour. The rate for gas will decrease by more than 10 cents to more than 1.32713 euros per cubic meter. The new rates for 1.2 million households with a variable contract will take effect on 1 October.
The price reductions save households 118 euros on an annual basis if they consume 2,900 kilowatt hours of electricity and 1,200 cubic meters of gas, Essent calculates.
The energy company warns once morest too much optimism. “Even though prices have been falling for three quarters in a row, it is uncertain how the market will develop this winter,” says director Boudewijn den Herder. Essent is once more faced with rising purchase prices on the gas market.
Essent recommends using LED lamps and draft strips
Essent has noticed in recent months that customers have a need for price certainty. “More and more customers are fixing rates for upcoming winters,” says Den Herder.
Being frugal remains important, Essent believes. The energy company is therefore calling on households to continue using LED lamps and draft strips.
Vattenfall also announced a price reduction as of October 1 on Monday. Prices for people with a variable contract at the energy company go to 34.6 cents for a kilowatt hour of electricity and almost 1.2975 euros for a cubic meter of gas.
