India’s R Pragnananda tied the world number one Magnus Carlsen in the first game of the Chess World Cup Final. The first game of the final in Azerbaijan ended in a draw. Pragnananda, who played with white pieces, reached a draw following 35 moves.

Magnus Carlsen will be playing the whites in the second game. That definitely gives the star a slight upper hand. The second game of the final will be played tomorrow (Wednesday). Carlson has held the world number one ranking in chess since 2013. There is sure to be a tough fight in the further stages of the finals.

In the semi-finals, Pragnananda reached the final by defeating world number three player Fabio Carauna of America. The candidate tournament that is going to be held now has qualified. The next candidate tournament will be held in Toronto, Canada in April next year (2024).
