A 64-year-old man was stranded on an uninhabited island for three days. The US Coast Guard (USCG) rescued an elderly man stranded on an island in the Bahamas on Friday. The USCG found them near Caye Sal, a small island located between Florida, Cuba and the Bahamas. The aircrew, identified as a 64-year-old Bahamian national, delivered supplies including a radio, food and water to Deep to establish communications on the island. “He informed the crew that he has been stuck here for three days following his ship broke down during the voyage. Coast Guard personnel were dispatched to rescue him and he was safely transferred to the Royal Bahamas Defense Force.

USCG aircraft normally patrol the Florida Straits and were patrolling areas including Caye Sal when officers saw the man’s red flare for help.
“We are proud to have saved his life. This case is a good example of having the right safety equipment on board. “The rescue would not have been possible had the flame not been seen,” said Petty Officer, Coast Guard Sector Key West Watchstander.
