Local, provincial and national works and educational activities form part of the 11th edition of the National Theater Festival organized by the Patagonian University Institute of the Arts (IUPA) and Patagonia Cultural Foundation (FCP) in Roca. The Festival will run from Wednesday, August 23 to Saturday, August 26 at the Dr. Tilo Rajneri and in Classroom 52 of the IUPA, both located at 2263 Rivadavia.

The official inauguration will be this Wednesday, at 6:00 p.m., in the Auditorium, with words from the authorities and the exhibition “Scenes from The Age of the Plum” by Arístides Vargas (Free admission until the room’s capacity is exhausted), by of students of the 3rd year from the IUPA Department of Dramatic Arts. In addition, the winning work of the 2nd Patagonian Playwriting Contest will be announced, which had a Jury made up of Maite Aranzábal, Verónica Martínez Durán and Ana Alvarado.

“Love is shit”by Cecilia Meijide, with the performance of Mariana Corral.

The Festival offers that day at 9:00 p.m. a main course: the work “Inestable” by Gadiel Sztryk and Andrés Caminos, directed and performed by the Sutottos Duo (Bs. As.). This piece takes fear and its derivatives as its axis; paranoia, phobias, obsessions and anxieties.

Sebastián Fanello, a professor at IUPA and part of the organization of the event, expresses: “The National Theater Festival contemplates the enrichment of the academic training of students in our careers. Through its activities: performances, workshops and talks; the Festival contributes to the integration and meeting between national theater makers and our academic community”. And he adds: “The students carry out a crossroads of experiences with actors and actresses from other provinces, being active spectators.”

“Unstable”, by Gadiel Sztryk and Andrés Caminos, directed and interpreted by el Dúo Sutottos (Bs. As.).

On Thursday, August 24 at 5:00 p.m., it will be the turn of the play “Galata” by Emilio Ziaurriz Culla, performed by the Grupo Acequia (Roca) (Free admission until the venue’s capacity is exhausted); and at 9 pm, “Meticulous cuts of rancid young ladies” by Luis Sarlinga will go on stage, by Periplas Teatro by Luis Beltrán. This comedy collects fragments that are reflected in some obscurities of our social and political history.

“The madman and the shirt”, by Nelson Valente, by Teatro FCP, directed by Tato Cayón.

On Friday, August 25 at 9:00 p.m., “Suburbia” by Sebastián Fanello will arrive, by Goodbye Stanislavsky from Neuquén. “Suburbia” is a comedy that humorously rescues the dream of two kidnappers who wanted another world in the 90’s.

On Saturday, August 26, on the last day, there will be a double show: at 7:00 p.m., the play “Love is a shit” by Cecilia Meijide (Neuquén) with Mariana Corral; and at 9 pm the premiere of “El loco y la camisa” by Nelson Valente, by Teatro FCP, directed by Tato Cayón (Roca). In “Love is shit”, a woman rehearses what she will say to her recent ex-partner, whom she must face in an imminent meeting to sign the separation papers. In “El loco y la camisa” a family hides its “loco” from outside and inside. The viewer detects in this family those secrets that precariously sustain a very fragile balance.

“Suburbia” by Sebastián Fanello, by Goodbye Stanislavsky, from Neuquén.

Tato Cayón, director of Teatro FCP and all the FCP productions, comments as part of the organization: “Any meeting that brings together colleagues and colleagues from theatrical work is always a reason for celebration. In these difficult times where everything is fragile, sustaining a space like the one proposed by IUPA and FCP with the Theater Festival is, without a doubt, a beautiful privilege that must be constantly paid for so that each year it grows a little more”.
