The concept of the zero-emission cruise ship was presented by the adventure cruise company Hurtigruten Norway, which developed the concept with 12 partners and the research institute SINTEF. The initiative was announced in March 2022 as “Sea Zero”, aiming to achieve the most energy-efficient sea travel. “After rigorous checks and studies, we have identified the most promising technologies for equipping the pioneering cruise ships of the future. We are committed to delivering a ship within a few years that surpasses anything before in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability,” said Hedda Felin, CEO of Hurtigruten Norway. The Norwegian project aims to drastically improve the sustainability indicators of shipping and the future of travel. The company’s ships are equipped with batteries that will be charged with renewable energy in the port. In addition to retractable sails equipped with solar panels, the ships will also feature artificial intelligence, retractable thrusters, counter-rotating engines, and advanced hull cleaning technology. The charge level of the batteries will be indicated on the hull, and guests can use an interactive app to check and minimize their own water and energy consumption. In order for the ship to enter Norwegian waters by 2030, production must begin in 2027. The current development phase focuses on battery manufacturing, propulsion technology, hull design and practices to minimize energy consumption. By the way, the ship is designed to be 135 meters long and is expected to have 270 cabins that will accommodate 500 guests and 99 crew members. And given that Hurtigruten has been transporting goods for 130 years, the new ship will also have cargo space and transport vehicles. Published on the BitcoinBázis page.
