Report of Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment Industry (Abimaq) released in July this year, data referring to the export performance of the sector of the Brazilian machinery and equipment industry in the month of May. According to the document released, in the month of May 2023, the machinery and equipment production area managed to export a total of US$ 1.3 billion. This value represents a remarkable growth of 35.7% compared to April, which, in turn, had registered a drop of 21.2% compared to March 2023. The performance in May contributed significantly to the overall indicator throughout this year, highlighting its remarkable performance. When compared to the same period in 2022, the growth achieved was 22.2%.
No report for the month of april, exports of machinery and equipment fell by 20.8% during the month of April, offsetting part of the accumulated progress in 2023. Despite this, the sector still managed to export a total of US$ 982 million, which represents a an increase of 9.5% compared to the total exported in April 2022. In the period between January and April of this year, the machinery and equipment industry achieved an accumulated growth of 23.4% in its exports. This advance helped to cushion the 12% drop in sales on the domestic market. Already in the accumulated of the first five months of the year (from January to May), the machinery and equipment industry presented a growth of 23.0% in exports. These results, once once more, were able to help mitigate the drop in sales in the domestic market.
The study also pointed out that the sector’s net revenue increased by 10.5% compared to April, totaling R$ 21.91 billion. However, in May 2023, there was a new retraction of 5.6% when compared to the same period in 2022. During the period from January to May, compared to the same period of time in 2022, there was a decrease of 8 .5% in net revenues from the machinery and equipment industry. In the last 12 months, the accumulated decline reached 7.3%, marking the tenth consecutive decline in this context of analysis.
Regarding the result of the machinery and equipment sector, the 17th Sobratema Study of the Brazilian Construction Equipment Market had considered favorable points in forecasting sales and rent in the machinery and equipment industry. According to this report, it was estimated that sales and revenues in 2023 might increase by around 4% both in the yellow line machinery segment and in the entire construction equipment sector.
José Antônio Valente, director of the company machine rental Trans Obra states that sales of machinery and equipment for export continue to contribute to the total result not having an even greater negative difference compared to 2022. “Despite the 2023 revenue being below previous years, the result of machines and equipment can serve as a model for more companies to invest in this type of business, both for large machines and also for smaller machines such as in the sale or gardening machine rentalsoil compaction machines and even air compressors”.
