Welcoming the resumption of the match following the clashes between Ajaccio and Bordeaux supporters on Monday evening, the Girondins strongly condemned the act of an “isolated group of supporters” yet banned from traveling to Corsica. A press release which should not warm up the already strained relations between the club and certain faithful since the end of last season.
The drop too much? The Girondins did not seem to appreciate the violent incidents that led to the interruption of Ajaccio-Bordeaux on Monday evening, in which around sixty Bordeaux supporters were involved.
In a press release promptly published following the clashes of a few hundred fans in the stands, the Bordeaux club denounced “the non-compliance by an isolated group of (its) supporters with the prefectural decree prohibiting their presence at the François-Coty stadium of Ajaccio”.
“The club is in close contact with the prefecture and the delegates of the League to allow their expulsion, their sanction, and welcomes the decision to resume the match”, continues the text, specifying that the Girondins “will subsequently take all measures necessary to sanction this unacceptable behavior which in no way reflects the culture of the Girondins supporters”.
The club already penalized this season because of one of its supporters
Bordeaux was however the subject of a prefectural decree prohibiting the movement of its supporters to Corsica. Seats were ripped off and a security barrier flew from a stadium stand. The Bordeaux supporters involved were evacuated by the police, while the conditions were deemed to be in order for the resumption of play following 55 minutes of interruption.
These incidents come as the club with the scapular was already penalized at the end of last season by the action of one of its supporters. On June 2, the incursion of a Bordeaux fan on the field who came to jostle the Ruthénois Lucas Buades had led to the suspension of the match once morest Rodez, then the victory on green carpet at the RAF, burying the last hopes of a rise of the Girondins. They started this Ligue 2 season with one point less.
