During this summer, there are many news related to the new functions that WhatsApp is testing, some of which are already available, such as the possibility of sending the photos we take with our phone in the original resolution. Once once more, we have to talk regarding this platform to show you the new function that they are already working on and it will allow us to format the text with more options than those already available.
WhatsApp allows us to format the messages we send through this platform using bold, italic, underline, and monospace. These options are more than enough for most users, however, Meta considers that they are few and is already testing 3 new ways to display messages. As we can read in Wabetainfo, the three new functions for formatting texts on this platform are:
Show text quotes Create text lists Show code in an ordered way
At the moment these functions are only available via WhatsApp Desktop beta. The Show Text Quotes feature allows users to highlight a specific part of a text unlike the feature available where we cannot highlight the part we are talking regarding.
The second function, creating text lists, is one of the options that this platform should have introduced many years ago, since it is especially useful when we want to create a list of things to do, a shopping list, and so on, without having to distribute the text using hyphens or commas.
The last function focused on a very specific niche of users, is designed so that programmers and developers can share code without the platform modifying some parameters as it currently does. This last function is not as useful as the previous two since programmers and developers do not use WhatsApp to share code precisely because of the interpretation it makes of some signs.
All these functions are very good, however, where WhatsApp has to improve, and a lot, is to implement a way so that it is not necessary to use codes to be able to use these functions, since, in the end, the utility goes unnoticed by unless we have the need to use it daily and always keep in mind how we should implement it and a clear example is found in that, to write a text in bold, we must put an asterisk
before and following the text, a highly unintuitive method.
As we have mentioned above, this new function is currently in beta in the WhatsApp Desktop version, however, it will not be limited to this version, but will also be available in the version for iOS, Android and via the web. Regarding when they will be implemented, the Wabetainfo guys have no answer to that question since it all depends on how the function evolves among the users who are lucky enough to try this function.
