With the cost of living rising, some may be jealous to see that a French couple managed to afford a two-week vacation on a budget of 28 euros, or the equivalent of one euro a day per individual, according to the Ouest-France media.
Erika and Pascal Blanc have set themselves a challenge to discover France at a low, even very low price.
The only problem is that the couple does not know where they will end their day since they are dependent on the people they meet and who help them during this adventure.
Every day, they “hit the road” and accept their new destination without flinching.
To stay within their budget, they avoid restaurants and try to take advantage of end-of-day bargains from shops.
“We also go to bakeries at the end of the day to see if there are any unsold items. But we don’t want to take advantage of people. If in exchange we have to do the washing up or tidy up the terrace, there’s no problem,” says Erika.
After a week of travelling, the couple have yet to spend a night out and shell out a single dollar.
So far, they have visited Reims, Charleville-Mézières, Dunkirk, Saint-Omer and Paris.
This trip aims to prove that the French are open-minded and caring.
