How many architectural gems do the gates spread across cities hide? In São Paulo, in the Alto da Boa Vista neighborhood, one of them was unveiled: a 1,000 m² house signed by the architect Vilanova Artigas.
The 1974 residence has two floors and no stairs. The floors are connected by ramps and the integration between them is impressive. With generous ceiling height and half walls, from one floor it is possible to see the rooms on the other floor without difficulty. And all of them, with concrete walls, are surrounded by large panes of glass that allow sunbathing in the home. A house, never before opened to the public, receives visitors until September 17 to enjoy the show Open 02 that fills every room with works curated by the trio Claudia Moreira Salles, Kiki Mazzucchelli e Filipe Assisthe latter is also the creator of the event.
Among the artists present, Adriana Varejão, Lígia Clark, Degas, Suzanne Valadon e Cildo Meireles fill the brutalist architecture of Artigas. And the architect himself also has works on display. These are pieces of furniture that were discovered during a visit by Claudia Moreira Salles to Artigas’ daughter. “This bookcase, my father designed it for me,” he said. Rosa Camargo In this ocasion. The piece was reissued by Etel in partnership with the Virgínia and Vilanova Artigas Institute – founded in 2020 and dedicated to the memory of the architect and his partner – and won three different versions.
