The eleventh edition of the Crystal and Glass Fair will take place on September 2 and 3, with a preview on Friday September 1. It was in March 2011 that Michel Vanderpypen and his son Pierre-Michel embarked on this somewhat crazy challenge: to organize a crystal fair in Ligny. Each edition vividly confirms the raison d’être of this event: visitors, collectors and buyers are there and they come from all over the country, but also from abroad.
If, from the start, this initiative was appreciated by the merchants, the fairs centered on crystal not being legion, the crystal fair of Ligny has today become the last one still in activity in Belgium. “The health crisis linked to Covid-19 has been there, explains Pierre-Michel Vanderpypen. We were forced to cancel the 2020 and 2021 editions but, in Ligny, we resumed with intact energy. Unfortunately, this has not been the case for all the fairs: that of Lasne has thus disappeared from the calendar.”
About fifty exhibitors will be present: “it’s a little less than usual because the work at the cultural center prevented us from organizing the fair in March. The postponement to September deprives us of certain merchants who had activities planned, but allows us to welcome some some new ones, detail” Pierre-Michel Vanderpypen.
Visitors will find old works produced in Vonêche, Val-St-Lambert, Herbatte, Chênée, Manage, Baccarat, Murano and Saint-Louis. Achievements by Gallé, Daum, Muller, Leloup and even Legras will be available.
Among the new exhibitors, a glass painting stand. There will of course be something for all budgets: from crystal glass at €25 to a vase with an engraved waist at €1,000 and more.
As in previous editions, this fair takes place with the collaboration of the teaching staff of the municipal school of Ligny and LAPEC (association of parents of the municipal school).
Ligny Cultural Center (Rue du Pirou 8), Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (entry 5 euros), Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (entry 3 euros). Free for children under 18.
