LONDON (AP) — Aston Villa went from losing by four goals in their first game of the season to winning by the same margin in their second.
A goal from Colombian striker Jhon Durán helped Villa take advantage of visiting Everton’s shaky defense to rout the Toffees 4-0 in the Premier League on Sunday. Spanish coach Unai Emery got his biggest win since he took over the Birmingham club.
After losing 5-1 at Newcastle last weekend, Villa took a 2-0 lead following first-half goals from captain John McGinn and Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz from a penalty kick. The Jamaican attacker Leon Bailey and Durán sentenced in the complement. Durán scored in the 75th, less than a minute following entering the game for Ollie Watkins.
Everton, on the other hand, have failed to score in their first two games and for the second season in a row they start with successive defeats. To make matters worse, their striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin had to be substituted following 38 minutes following a clash of heads.
