PhD student Alexandra Wormley will teach the course, titled Psychology of Taylor Swift – Advanced Topics in Social Psychology, at ASU for one semester this fall.
“The course basically uses Taylor Swift for a semester as an example of different phenomena: gossip, relationships, revenge,” she told the university’s news site. The course is not a seminar on how much we like it or dislike it, we want to be able to learn more regarding psychology.”
The course will discuss what psychologists can learn by linking themes from the “Lover” singer’s various albums.
Using her 2017 album ‘reputation’ as illustration, Alexandra Wormley said: “Taylor’s sixth album ‘reputation’ is her comeback following disappearing from the spotlight due to disputes with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. She stages her revenge on them, and the wider media landscape, by releasing a hugely successful album and stadium tour. Students know this, but do they know why we love revenge? Do they know how we get revenge? Social psychology can tell us that.”
The news comes days following the University of Ghent in Belgium announced that the Literature: Taylor’s Version course would launch in the fall.
