The Netflix original series ‘Mask Girl’ (played by Kim Yong-hoon) was released on the 18th. ‘Mask Girl’ is a work regarding the story of Kim Mo-mi, an ordinary office worker with a complex regarding her appearance, who gets caught up in an incident while working as an internet broadcasting BJ while covering her face with a mask every night.
‘Mask Girl’ is characterized by the fact that three actors Lee Han-byeol, Nana, and Ko Hyeon-jeong all played the role of Kim Mo-mi, the main character. In episodes 1-3, Kim Mo-mi, who has a complex regarding her appearance, is rookie actress Lee Han-byul; Kim Mo-mi, who lives in prison, was played by Go Hyun-jung. The three actors completed the three Kim Mo-mi by capturing the character’s characteristics that change depending on the situation they are in.
In ‘Mask Girl’, the fierce battle between two mothers with different motherhoods dominates the second half. Her mother, Kim Gyeong-ja, who loves Joo-nam more than anyone else in the world, who is not popular with the opposite sex due to her social misfit, loses her temper when her Joo-nam is harmed by ‘Mask Girl’ Kim Mo-mi. Kim Kyung-ja, a ‘helicopter mom’ who controls her son and risks any sacrifice for him, dramatically portrays the misguided maternal love that ruins her child with her excessive affection.
In ‘Mask Girl’ Yeom Hye-ran played Kim Kyung-ja realistically. She realistically expressed Yeom Hye-ran as a mother who is not kind to her son, but who has misplaced affection for her. Yeom Hye-ran proved once once more that she is an ‘actress to be trusted and watched’ by playing the motherhood of Gyeong-ja, who is becoming more and more maniacal, in a creepy and sometimes sad way.
Kim Mo-mi, portrayed by Go Hyeon-jung, is a victim of lookism, and because of this, she has become a ‘bad mother’. Kim Mo-mi, who never received warm affection even from her parents in her childhood, longs for her affection by acting as a ‘mask girl’ in the Internet world created by her own imagination. She decides to raise her child with infinite affection, but she receives a life sentence and she is imprisoned. In the end, her mother, Kim, becomes a ‘bad mother’ who, once morest her own will, inflicted an indelible scar on her daughter, Kim Mi-mo, that she was a ‘murderer’s daughter’ throughout her school days.
Ko Hyeon-jung met viewers as Kim Mo-mi, a prisoner who abandoned her life. Ko Hyeon-jung lost the meaning of her life during her imprisonment and left a deep impression on her haggard mother with dark circles in her pale eyes. He intensely portrayed the two faces of her character as Momi, a mother who struggles to and fro until the last moment to protect her daughter from her unmotivated and expressionless mother.
These two worst mothers meet and take revenge on each other. Kim Kyung-ja points her sword at each other, at her ‘mask girl’ Mo-mi Kim, who has made her son fall into hell, and at Kim Kyung-ja, who has left an indelible scar on her own daughter, Mi-mo Kim. ‘Mask Girl’, the story of two ‘Bad Mothers’ meeting and taking revenge on each other, showed the process from the beginning, development, crisis, climax, and ending until the two fell into the abyss. If you follow the emotional changes of the characters drawn in three dimensions, you will feel compassion for the villains. You will see what kind of outcome the fierce battle between the evil but pitiful ‘Bad Mother’ Kim Mo-mi and Kim Kyung-ja will eventually face, without letting go of the tension until the end.
Another highlight of the drama is the fun of seeing characters full of personality expressed by each actor, from the ugly man Joo Oh-nam played by Ahn Jae-hong to Kim Mo-mi, who are completely different from Lee Han-byul and Nana.
