The appointment of the energy regulator’s new board of directors is a long time coming, which might hamper its ability to make decisions from October.

On July 20, Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten (Groen) proposed to the government to appoint a new management committee at the head of the Creg, the federal policeman in terms of energy, taking office on 27 September. Koen Locquet would become full chairman, Laurent Jacquet would take over the management of the markets, and two newcomers would enter, Ilse Tant in the administrative management and Sigrid Jourdain in the management of price control. But the government decided to put the item back on the agenda of the Council of Ministers of 1is september.

An exception procedure is planned, but it might affect the legal solidity of the regulator’s decisions, which has major issues to decide in the coming weeks, such as Elia’s tariffs, or issues related to CRM, the support for production capacities.

The Liberals, French-speaking and Flemish, would slow down, concerned regarding other appointments.

However, it is not certain that there will be a green light at the beginning of September. Because a wider nominations package is in preparation at government level. And the Liberals, French-speaking and Flemish, would slow down, concerned regarding other appointments, including that of the Brussels King’s prosecutor and that of the president of the management committee of the FPS Foreign Affairs.
