While strolling through the aisles of a store in the Parly 2 shopping center (Yvelines), a mother who was breastfeeding her baby was reportedly dismissed by a salesperson. She returned to this moment which shocked her in the columns of Parisian.

She probably won’t be setting foot in that Uniqlo store anytime soon. On the followingnoon of Friday August 18, Rebecca, a resident of Mantes-la-Jolie, was reportedly ordered to leave a clothing store of the Japanese brand following her 18-month-old baby began to suckle her breast, a she explained to our colleagues at Parisian. “I am used to breastfeeding my child everywhere, whenever he needs it“, explains the mother of the family, who was in the company of her husband at the time of the facts described.

No law prohibiting breastfeeding in public places

On the phone with her uncle, with her little girl in her arms, she is stopped by a salesman as she wanders through the aisles. He asks her to leave the store. “Explaining to me that eating in the store was prohibited, and that this included breastfeeding“, she specifies, still in shock. According to her, the employee would have subsequently justified his request by explaining to her that she might “stain“the clothes, before telling one of his colleagues”that he was fed up with these bourgeoises who thought they were allowed everything“.

If Rebecca asked to see a manager, her request would not have been granted. In the store where she experienced this form of humiliation, the staff was not very forthcoming with our colleagues. The story seems to have gone back to headquarters because Uniqlo France apologized in an email, recalling in passing that nothing prohibits women from breastfeeding in its various points of sale. On the side of the law, breastfeeding in public places is not prohibited in France, outdoors or indoors.
