The number of people illegally employed in Austria continues to rise

Vienna (OTS) In Austria, the number of seizures by the financial police of third-country nationals who are found to be working and who are still staying in Austria illegally is increasing sharply. The number of people working illegally in Austria is also increasing massively. In the 2021 calendar year, the financial police arrested 106 people. In 2022 there were 185 people and in the first half of 2023 there were already 92 arrests. The illegal workers were handed over to the Aliens’ Police.

Finance Minister Magnus Brunner: “The financial police are persistently taking action once morest tax, duty and social security fraud in Austria. This work is essential to protect fair competitive conditions in Austria as a business location. I would like to thank the officers of the financial police for their valuable work, with which they not only protect our society, but also our social system.”

Five seizures in three days in Upper Austria
In just three days, the financial police arrested five people at the end of July. For example, during an inspection at a construction site in Gallneukirchen in Upper Austria on Monday, July 24, 2023, a Pakistani citizen was found without any labor market documents. In addition, the foreign worker was not covered by social security. The informed police inspection Gallneukirchen took over the further official action.

Two more arrests followed in Upper Austria on Tuesday followingnoon, July 25, 2023. In the course of an inspection of a bar in Linz, two third-country nationals were found. The colleagues from the Leopoldschlag immigration police, who had already been informed in advance, took the two people away for further clarification.

Finally, on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, two illegally resident Serbs were apprehended by the financial police at a construction site in Klosterneuburg. After the two tried to flee, they were arrested for the time being.

Persons who are unlawfully in Austria and who are found by the financial police to be employed are to be arrested by them until the police arrive. This is followed by a check under alien law and, depending on the situation, an expulsion.
