The Legault government “is following very closely” the evolution of the Eris sub-variant. There are currently 558 hospitalizations linked to COVID-19 in Quebec, a figure on the increase. It is still too early to know if health measures might be taken. Minister Christian Dubé still invites sick people to stay at home.
“Good practice is to isolate yourself for a few days, it is to let the symptoms pass”, argued the Minister of Health on Wednesday at the start of the weekly meeting of the Legault cabinet.
If he expects new recommendations from the National Directorate of Public Health by the end of the month, the minister can already confirm that a vaccination campaign once morest the virus will be held in the fall. It remains to be seen who will be targeted by this new offensive once morest COVID-19: only vulnerable people or the entire population.
But it is better to be more careful, believes Christian Dubé. “It is a disease which is difficult, which can have effects especially for vulnerable people and the elderly, so I would say, at the moment, while waiting for specific recommendations, go and get vaccinated”, a he insisted.
Not like the flu
Moreover, Quebecers infected with the virus should not go to the elderly. “You would have the flu and you wouldn’t go see your old aunt,” says the Minister of Health. I wouldn’t say it’s like the flu, we saw the problem we had with COVID-19.
Those who need rapid diagnostic tests can obtain them free of charge from vaccination centres.
