A fire broke out in the substation in Kaprun on Saturday night. A 30 kV switchgear caught fire. Third-party negligence can now be ruled out.

A police patrol from the Salzburg state control center was ordered to the substation in Kaprun at around 12:39 a.m. According to the Salzburg State Police Headquarters, the reason for the operation was an expired fire alarm in the Kaprun substation area.
In the area of the transformer station, heavy smoke might be detected on the premises. The “company fire brigade” then began with the support of the FF Kaprun including a respiratory protection team with the extinguishing work.
At 1:45 a.m. the company fire brigade was able to report “Brand OFF”. A sighting of the fire object revealed that a 30 KV switchgear had caught fire. Third-party fault can be ruled out with a probability bordering on certainty, as the State Police Directorate announced on Saturday followingnoon. The investigation of the area where the fire broke out revealed that the fire broke out in the switching cell due to a short circuit. The fire was quickly brought under control thanks to the rapid and intensive extinguishing action of the company fire brigade with the support of the Kaprun fire brigade. The financial damage caused by the incident cannot be quantified at this time. No people were injured.
