The appearance of the dengue epidemic or “tropical flu” in the health district of Abéché province of Ouaddaï last Wednesday, leaves no one indifferent. The provincial office of the National Union for Development and Renewal (UNDR) of Ouaddaï with the support of the 2nd vice-president of the said political party, Dr Abdelrahim Awad Atteïb, who is also Minister of Livestock, seized the bull by the horns by donating the medicine to the local health authorities.
This Friday, August 18, 2023, this political party offered the provincial delegation of public health and prevention of Ouaddaï a donation of medicines worth 2,450,000 FCFA in order to deal with this epidemic which is affecting the population of Ouaddaï. Ouaddaï and more specifically Abéché.
The donation was received by the secretary general of the province of Ouaddaï, Abakar Hissein Didigui, from the hands of the provincial president Ahmat Hassan Moufta, then the secretary general handed over to the provincial delegate of public health of Ouaddaï. The delivery of these drugs took place at the governorate.
As a reminder, dengue fever is a viral infection that is transmitted from mosquitoes to humans. It is most common in tropical and subtropical climates. Most sufferers have no symptoms, but the most common are high fever, headache, body aches, nausea, and rash. Most patients recover in 1 to 2 weeks. Some develop severe dengue fever and are hospitalized.
In severe cases, dengue can be fatal. The risk of illness can be reduced by avoiding mosquito bites, especially during the day. Dengue fever is treated with analgesics, as there is no specific treatment according to the WHO.
