West and Tauern Autobahn mainly affected
Vienna (OTS) – Holiday shift changes and numerous accidents led to kilometers of traffic jams on Saturday, especially on the West and Tauern Autobahn. According to the ÖAMTC, the federal states of Lower Austria and Salzburg were the most affected.
A1 closed for hours in Lower Austria
Due to an accident involving several vehicles, the West Autobahn (A1) in the Amstetten area in the direction of Salzburg had to be closed for almost four hours from 07:30 a.m. The result was a 13 km backlog and long waiting times. Accidents on the A1 towards Salzburg also led to longer delays at midday in St. Pölten and Ybbs.
30 kilometers of convoy traffic in Salzburg from Walserberg to Golling
The still uninterrupted departure towards the south left its mark on Salzburg: from the Walserberg we went at a walking pace to Golling. The result was block handling in front of the tunnel areas.
More traffic jams
On the Tauern Autobahn (A10), the convoys in the direction of Salzburg were kilometers behind from midday in front of the Katschberg Tunnel in Carinthia and the St. Michael toll station in Salzburg. In Styria, the ÖAMTC experts recorded more than six kilometers of backwater on the Pyhrn Autobahn (A9) in front of the Gleinalm Tunnel heading north. The Deutsch-Feistritz – Ubelbach construction site area was also a bottleneck.
