President Nayib Bukele Condemns Doctors’ Strike: Unveiling the Politics Behind Patient Well-being

The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, tonight condemned a national health strike that doctors from the Doctors for a Living Wage of El Salvador (MPUSD) movement intend to carry out, and questioned that they threaten to stop work since this would affect patients.

For the president, this association of doctors downplays the importance of patients and is rather focused on the 2024 elections. “It is clear that for this association of doctors, patients are not important, nor is the existence or scarcity of medicines, nor the equipment, or inputs, they are not even interested in fighting for their ‘fired colleagues’, as they stated a few weeks ago,” the president said as usual, on the Twitter network.

Bukele also called the doctors promoting the strike “charlatans”, and assured that the reasons they have are electoral. “The only thing that interests them is the elections. Here they make it very clear. No serious doctor would fall into the trap of these charlatans,” he added.

The MPUSD announced Thursday of this week that they are considering “the largest national health strike they have seen in El Salvador,” while sending a message to the president: “Your re-election is illegal.”
