Ravens rookie surprises dad with car
Receiver Zay Flowers, a first-round draft pick, bought his dad a gift.
The veteran defensive lineman, selected with the first overall pick in the 2014 draft, will continue his NFL career with Baltimore
The deal is for one year and up to $2.5 million, but might go up to $6 million, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler.
“He’s a tough guy who throws his body around,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said. “We’ve played him many times. We understand how he plays and we’re excited to have him.

“I think he’s a little underrated as a pass-rusher.”
Baltimore has shown a lot of interest in free-agent pass-rushers this summer. The Ravens previously met with Kyle Van Noy and Dawuane Smoot as well.
Jadeveon Clowney, who was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in 2014, received a contract offer from the Ravens during their visit on Aug. 8, but left without signing a deal. He then visited the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
Upon joining the Ravens, Jadeveon Clowney reunites with Anthony Weaver, Baltimore’s assistant head coach and defensive line coach. Weaver worked with Jadeveon Clowney for three years when he was the defensive line coach for the Houston Texans.
A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Jadeveon Clowney has 43 career sacks, more than the total for Ravens outside linebackers (28.5).
“The guys just want to win,” Jadeveon Clowney told the Ravens website. “They call and say, ‘We’re just trying to win. We can do it here. With the pieces around us, you can come and help.’ I think they have a great team and a great chance to win. I want to be a part of that.”
The team is expected to rely on young pass-rushers Odafe Oweh and David Ojabo this season, but lacks proven backup behind them. With Tyus Bowser (on the non-football injury list) taking longer than expected to recover from a knee injury, Baltimore didn’t have an outside linebacker in spring training who was older than 25.
Justin Houston, who led the Ravens with 9.5 sacks last season, signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Carolina Panthers earlier this month. Baltimore didn’t show much interest in keeping Houston, a source said.
Jadeveon Clowney, who turned 30 in February, played for the Cleveland Browns the previous two seasons, signing back-to-back one-year deals.
He had nine sacks in his first year in Cleveland in 2021 starting on the opposite side of All-Pro Myles Garrett. However, Jadeveon Clowney had a disappointing season in 2022, finishing with just two sacks.
At the end of the season, he told Cleveland.com that he probably wouldn’t return to the Browns because the organization favored Garrett, who finished tied for second in the NFL with 16 sacks, over him.
“Everyone’s trying to take it [a Garrett] to the Hall of Fame instead of winning games,” Jadeveon Clowney told Cleveland.com. “I don’t even think [Garrett] I noticed. I’m not trying to say it’s him. I try to get along with everyone I play with. He and I don’t have a problem. It’s not his fault, it’s nonsense and I don’t have time for it.”
After the comments were posted, Jadeveon Clowney was sent home before the final practice of the regular season and was ruled out of Cleveland’s final road game once morest the Pittsburgh Steelers, which the Browns lost, 28-14. Jadeveon Clowney later apologized to Garrett in a statement.
Before the game once morest Pittsburgh, Browns defensive ends coach Chris Kiffin also confirmed that Jadeveon Clowney had refused to play on first or second down in Week 7 once morest the Ravens because he was upset with the way the team was playing. team had planned to use it in the game. The Browns also lost that game. Jadeveon Clowney did not play in the first series the following week on “Monday Night Football” once morest the Bengals, although he entered the game during Cincinnati’s second seed.
