It was on Thursday that this new provision came into force, which allows IPSs to do more.
Thus, the IPS will be able to take care of workers who are victims of an occupational injury, carry out medical follow-up, as well as send medical reports specifying the diagnosis of the injury, the treatment plan, the date of consolidation and the evaluation of the sequelae. that may result from this lesion, specifies the Order of Nurses of Quebec.
The professional order sees it as “an important step forward in terms of access to care and services for the population of Quebec”.
The Association of Specialized Nurse Practitioners is delighted with this progress.
“Nurse practitioners are already qualified to do this kind of assessment. We are talking regarding the physical evaluation in itself, the evaluation of the person. We are already seeing people who may have injured themselves, either while playing sports or outside of work. But when the period came when we had to complete the documentation, in connection with the CNESST, according to the laws and regulations, we might not do it. And there, that is now possible, ”explained in an interview on Friday Christine Laliberté, president of the association.
Filling out the forms and documentation required by the Commission for Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work (CNESST) can sometimes be laborious.
There are 1300 certified IPS in Quebec and, according to Mme Laliberté, the majority of them will be able to do so. This therefore increases access to a health service for the public.
“We had a good collaboration with the CNESST for the preparation of a training to complete the documentation properly, to ensure that the terms used and the follow-up used meet the expectations of the CNESST when the documentation is completed. So we have their support on that,” added M.me Freedom.
On the union side too, the measure is well received.
“This represents a step in the right direction in terms of respecting their professional autonomy and enhancing their skills. We welcome this other step forward and hope that more acts will be delegated to them so that they can exercise their full field of expertise,” commented the Interprofessional Health Federation (FIQ).
