This Friday evening, around 7:30 p.m., an accident occurred in Couillet (Charleroi), in the rue de Châtelet. We seem to have narrowly avoided a real tragedy.
According to the first elements of the investigation, it would seem that a car coming from Châtelet at high speed wanted to “triple” (overtake a car itself in the process of overtaking) near the station. Except one of those cars was actually turning left. To avoid it, the driver allegedly swerved, lost control of his VW Fox, hit a road sign and continued on his way before crashing into a bus shelter… where 5 people were waiting for their public transport. .
A lady and two children, a teenager and a man in his thirties were dragged away like straws. The crazy car ended its race in a wall of the station.

The “ambulance” disaster plan has been initiated. Five emergency vehicles and two SMURs simultaneously departed from several depots. The firefighters intervened with two beacons while half a dozen local police teams from Charleroi established a large perimeter.
Several injured, including one seriously, were transported to various hospitals in the region. An expert from the prosecution came down on the spot in the evening. The driver of the VW Fox was taken to the police station to be heard.
