The Ministry of Health and Population revealed a package of preventive measures to protect once morest infection with the new mutant, Iris, which included:

To protect you and your family from the new Iris mutant, you must take preventive measures

1- Preserving vaccinations for the groups most vulnerable to infection with Corona.

2- Adhere to the precautionary measures.

3- Obtaining vitamins under medical supervision to raise the immune status.

4- Avoid traveling to countries in which sick cases of the new variant of Corona appeared.

5- Go to the nearest hospital when you feel symptoms of a common cold or coronavirus.

The Ministry of Health and Population said that it is taking all preventive and precautionary measures for Corona disease (Covid 19) in general, as it is an acute respiratory disease such as seasonal influenza.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that with regard to the epidemiological situation in Egypt, starting from April until now, the cases of Covid-19 disease began to decrease significantly, as it reached the lowest rates compared to previous years, and there are no Deaths since the last recorded case on March 16, 2023 to date, and all the currently circulating mutants belong to the Omicron mutator and do not cause severe disease.

Abdul Ghaffar added that the ministry is following the epidemiological situation of respiratory viruses, including COVID-19, through a strong surveillance system that includes routine monitoring of acute respiratory diseases for cases attending outpatient clinics or hospitalized, and through selected sites for monitoring acute respiratory diseases and influenza-like diseases. The genetic sequence of laboratory-confirmed samples of Covid-19 disease is continuously examined in central public health laboratories, to follow up on the emergence of new variants within the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Abdul Ghaffar indicated that the World Health Organization declared the end of the global health emergency for Covid-19 disease, on May 5, 2023, and since that date, the Covid-19 virus has become endemic in all countries of the world and is treated like other acute respiratory diseases. He added that the current dominant mutant in the world is the Omicron mutant, which is rapidly spreading, but it is less severe and less dangerous than other mutants.
