If you want to go to Knokke this weekend or in the days to come, pay attention to the signs that the municipality has installed in the streets of the seaside resort on the Belgian coast. The authorities, who expect to see a lot of tourists disembarking given the good weather, wanted to recall some codes concerning behavior in the street.

The “heat plan” has been activated (the thermometer will exceed 28 degrees), and police patrols as well as municipal guards will patrol the city center of Knokke, reports Het Laatste Nieuws. And they will be particularly attentive to… the way the tourists are dressed. It is indeed forbidden to walk bare-chested or in a bikini in the streets, and anyone violating this rule might be fined 350 euros. Ditto for anyone who is too noisy, by putting on too loud music for example.

To properly inform visitors, large signs have been placed around the city, warning of the amount of the fine in case of violation.

“Experience shows that a different crowd comes to our municipality on hot days. […] They are young people from the big cities and from the north of France. They do not always take our standards and our values seriously”, justified a member of the local police to our Flemish colleagues.

Measures ” once morest” the behavior of tourists which will undoubtedly please the two “chic” ladies interviewed at the beginning of the week by De Telegraaf, who complained of seeing people arriving in Knokke “in shorts”, “with their fridge box on the beach”. The video of their interview went viral, and also led to the creation of a humorous Facebook event called “Met korte broek en frigobox naar Knokke” (“With shorts and a fridgebox in Knokke”, editor’s note).
