We continue the mandatory workforce review to introduce you to each of the twelve Blues who will try to climb on the roof of the World on September 10th. Today we are looking at the profile of… Yakuba Ouattara, and the Monaco full-back will have a good part to play in this World Cup following Frank Ntilikina’s injury. His defensive contribution off the bench will be particularly valuable.

Surname: Ouattara First name: Yakuba Age: 31 Height: 1.90m Weight: 100kg Position: Full-back/winger Nickname: Yakou On CV: Chalon, Denain, Brooklyn Nets, Betis, Monaco Honors in EDF: with his 17 selections, Ouattara is a soldier of Colonel Collet and responds whenever he is called.

Discreet but effective, Yak Ouatt has had a rather interesting career which started on… a playground in Lyon. Quickly spotted for his athletic and defensive qualities, Yakou signed his first professional contract in 2013 at Élan Chalon where he had a good season. It is then exported to Denain in the North of France where it reveals itself.

Tracked by the ambitious promoted Monegasque, Yakuba Ouattara joined the rock in the summer of 2015. He quickly became an important player in the princely city and aspired even higher. In 2017, he signed a two-way contract with the Brooklyn Nets. Unfortunately for him, his adventure turns out to be quite short. Cut off by the New York franchise, he finished his season in the G League before returning to Monaco the following season. At ease in the principality, he nevertheless decided to leave for Betis Sevilla in 2020. A short season in the Spanish league before returning to his Monegasque stronghold where he played until then.

In selection, Ouattara is a player that we have met since 2016 mainly in the qualifying phases. With around twenty selections, he is not really one of Collet’s first options but always responds when called upon to put on the blue tunic. With Frank Ntilikina’s injury, Yakou might – for the first time in his career – have a good part to play in major international competition. It remains at the present time Frank’s first station-for-station replacement solution. His defensive qualities and his experience will necessarily be skills that the staff of the French team will not hesitate to use.

Little fun fact: Yakuba Ouattara had already booked his vacation before he was called by the staff of the Blues to come and play this World Cup. The main interested party obviously dropped everything to come and play this competition which he seemed to have dreamed of for a while:

Its objective will therefore beextinguish opposing attackers“. This has the merit of being clear. In short, an additional rock in the French deck which might well come out of its box to lay us a defensive mixtape worthy of the greatest during this world. Private Yakou, it’s up to you!
